If any body has this system installed can you tell me where the magnetometer is mounted. The mounting parameters are such that it looks like I will have to have another plane flying with me to hold the magnetometer to provide clearance from just about everything else in the Seawind. The wings are out and it has to be at least 10' from any motor or relay, it can't be near cables or wires carrying as little as 100 milliamps so I may have to figure out a compromise.

    Thanks, Tom Thunnell

    Tom,

Time to think about the GRT HX........

Tom- Mine is on the left side of the aft fuselage, Up about a foot off the floor, halfway back to the tail, on a shelf bonded to the fuselage wall. No wires nearby. Seems to work OK there. It's for the Grand Rapids system, though- maybe the Garmin is fussier. Ed

I have mine mounted on a shelf just above the flap piston. I have a Dynon on top of a Grand Rapids...both work well..!!

It appears Garmins is a fussy one. It has to be a minimum of 10' from any motor or relay, 3' from any kilogram or larger ferrous metal mass and for the moment I forget how far away from any wire carrying 100 miliamps or more. There are additional parameters with regard to strobes and control wires. I gave my panel builder a diagram of the Seawind with additional details and after talking with Garmin they suggest a water proof box properly mounted on the right side of the water rudder compartment. They think that's far enough away from everything such that they can "tune" out any magnetic interference. I hope they are right. Thanks for your responses.
