Has anyone ever landed in the snow and then taken off..?
With all the snow here in New York I am ready to try it...

DAMMMM, We just got blasted here with snow. 3 feet in some areas. I got about 2 feet...
So is it ok to land in the snow now....? $500,000.00 Question

Question??????? can you tell how deep the snow is from 500 ft in the air? Would"nt it be hard on oue keel if only a few inches??? Not fo me. Keith

Several years back I made note of a picture of a Lake amphib on Snow, and having as much time as anyone in a Lake I reasoned "I can do that".
Well I was able to do that BUT the snow I landed on was much different than the snow the picture I had seen was taken on. The picture crystalline, my snow packable.
The entire front nose gear bay was filled and packed tight with snow through this tiny little hole in the gear doors. The gear would not come down which sadly meant yet another landing at an airport off the runway on even more snow.
Not my brightest move to say the least. Although the landing was fairly smooth directional control was nearly nonexistant on the snow, and the several miles needed for the 200hp to get up enough speed to pull off the snow was also a surprise being as a Lake gets off the water in a very short distance.
Hope that insight helps prevent the next person from going there.
