The difficulty of obtaining insurance and type trg is making me hesitant about buying and finishing a Seawind....It seems an even larger issue in Canada.
What is one to do?
The factory won't even answer ownership transfer questions let alone type trg questions.
What is the situation US vs. Canada?

There are Seawinds in Canada that were purchased in the US and transferred to Canada. I haven't heard that it was a huge problem. There is one fellow in Ontario that bought a Seawind a couple of years ago and is flying it now. In fact he is coming to my splash-in. As far as insurance is concerned, you can get it but it is very expensive. Most people choose not to go for it. Hope this helps. Good luck. Tom Saccio

Training is NOT an issue. As a matter of fact, you shoud get training before trying to fly the seawind. The plane is a joy to fly, however it doesn't act like your normal cherokee 6 or 172. Give Jack a call!
As Tom mentioned, stop in at the splashin at the end of the month. What a wealth of info.....
Insurance.... Most just have liability. Hull insurance is up there.
