gderamel | Nose Gear Shimmy
The stainless spring on my nose gear shimmy dampener seems to have bottomed-out. Any suggestions on where to find a replacement? Any suggestions on a difference system and/or material?
BTW, the picture of the spring was taken about a year ago... its since gotten smaller.

Guillame, That's an interesting picture! I don't have that spring at all! Shimmy damping on my nose gear is done with O rings between the inner and outer cylinders of the pivot. Do you have those, too? I had bad shimmy develop (after not that many bad landings) and I found that the attach point holes, where the retraction pivot arm is fastened to the left and right bulkheads, had worked oversize in the fiberglass, allowing the whole nosegear to rattle around. My fix was to re-pot the holes and bond on a plate to the outside of the two bulkheads, to better take the shear loads. Ed

Thanks Ed. I'm not sure if I've got the O-rings on the pivot. I'll take a look and report back.
If you get a chance would you post pictures of your work on the nose gear?
