Russ Kotlarek | 3459 Weights needed for engine
From past postings and research I know the 540 has a weight of 438 lbs. dry. I believe this weight does not include MAGS & HARNESS w/ PLUGS, STARTER, OIL COOLERS, HOSES, MOUNTS, much less oil.
If you know any of these items is inluded in the 438 lbs I would appreciate that input.
Otherwise if you either are just about to install your engine a complete weight would be amazing input or follow up posts on each of these items as I am trying to (more closely) figure a weight and balance before making some of the decisions I need make here in the next few weeks.
I thank all of you in advance for making the slightly extra effort to help in this need !!!

Russ, My Lycoming operators manual lists the IO 540K engines' weights between 466 and 472 lbs, with the K1H5 at 468 lbs dry weight, but they don't define dry weight. (When I lifted mine up ther, it felt more like 1468 lbs, though.)

Lycoming's site has dry weights for all their engines. This weight per Lycoming I talked to directly includes everything on the engine proper required to run the engine less Fluids.... ieil. They claim it includes even the oil filter, started, mags, plugs, wires, and alternator.
Their site link is:
http://www.lycoming.com/engines/seri...e%20Insert.pdf Bottom line a 540k series with oil included but not including external baffeling, exhaust, oil coolers, hoses and mounts weighs in at 486 lbs. average. The balance of those items is about 37lbs so our application weight of the 540k engine is 523 lbs gross.
Assuming anyone other than myself might be looking for this information.
