Unfortunately that is the same weekend as the Greenville Maine International Seaplane Fly-in. I know I'm late to comment here, but that weekend won't work for me. I also have a wedding to attend on the 7th of September in Maine.

Maybe better luck next year for me.

Ed Lynch | Splash in agenda thoughts and musings

              Mike,

Old Rhinebeck is certainly worth a visit, especially for those who have never been. Been there years ago, but would go again.

In the past, we have spent Saturday morning sitting listening to old war stories revisited, while the weather deteriorates to where we can't do much flying. I have left every "splash-in" wishing I had done more splashing! But maybe that's normal!?

If folks arrive on Friday, and leave Sunday, Saturday is all we have to "do something".

Do you think we could stretch it another day? Lots of guys will be travelling a ways to attend, so maybe another day of activities would be welcome. Maybe a polling of those who plan to come....

How far do we have to fly to do water work?

              Ed

              Mike

              Hi Ed

If you all want to stay the week you are welcome. I can take the time. As far as splashing, the Hudson River is within the class d of kpou or greenwood lake is about 20 min away. Greenwood lake sits on the border of ny and nj. If using, one has to land on the ny north end of the lake. One of the biggest problems around here is the boaters, need I say more.

Not many lakes to choose from.

              What do u all think?

Another idea would be to ya a whizz around the Statue of Liberty at 1000 ft.

Which airport are you anticipating that we will arrive at? POU or one of the other airports around there? And general meeting Place? The Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome website refers to using the Kingston-Ulster Airport (20N) and take a taxicab to the aerodrome. That looks like a nice quiet airport to use if we go to the Rhinebeck Aerodrome.

The Hudson River Excursion, and flying around the Statue of Liberty sounds wonderful. I would never have thought about doing that while out there, but now I’m bitten.

The Hudson River sounds like a good place to do water work especially if there is less boat traffic than on the lakes. It’s always nice to watch Seawinds taking off and landing on the water. Is there a marina, boat landing, or park along the river where we could gather at some time during the weekend for rides and general viewing. It looks like there is something at the end of Rivercrest Ct. at Rivercrest Rd. (41 deg. 40’ 13”N, 73 deg. 56’ 33”W). Just throwing ideas out.

                Mike

                Where to start.......

Yes KPOU will be the airport we 1st gather at. We have a small house to use and fuel prices will be lower for us.

                I am thinking.....

Friday Day/Night: Land at KPOU, park planes, Dinner at ?

Sat: Drive to Rhinebeck Aerodrome, Event: 'Wounded Warrior Day + Pioneer Air Show'

                OR

Sun: Drive to Rhinebeck Aerodrome, Event: 'World War I Air Show'

                Group Rates - 15 or more, $15.00/per person, $10.00 65 or older.

Whatever day we don't goto Rhinebeck we can go to the Statue Of Liberty.

I might need to hitch a ride since my plane is in florida now. Might have it up here by then....Don't know.

The hudson river can be tricky, we have to play this one day to day. If there is a heavy rainstorm then there will be trees floating so needless to say... no go, however, there is a small cove on the east bank in beacon, ny just below the newburgh beacon bridge that should be ok.

                  Hi Everyone.

I've been checking around for room prices for check in on 8/23 and check out on 8/25. I've been finding that this is the busy season for the kpou area.

I have reserved a block of rooms at the Extended Stay of America, which is located about 6 miles south of kpou at a rate of $89.00 per night. The average for this area is about $130.00 per night right on up to $189.00 per night.

You may contact them at 845-897-2800 to complete your reservations.

                      Hi guys,

We regret that due to some busy things going on here at the shop, we can't make it to the fly-in this year.

As always, we stand ready to help you any way we can.

                      Thanks. Have fun.

Paul, Sorry for the delay. It should be $89.00 per night, and is listed under International Seawind Pilots Association.

Thanks to all that "splashed in". I had a great time seeing all u all again and really enjoyed the conversations. Mike and Krystal again took the honors of coming from the furthest, Saskatchewan Canada, about 1,300 miles. I think we all added a few pounds and now need a gym membership.

Thank You so VERY much, Mike and Beth. Everything was so great including the weather (how did you manage that?) Even my 800 mile trip home! Set the auto pilot on at 500 ft. after leaving POU and never took it off all the way to BMI. Seawinds have Lo---------ng legs. What a trip home!!!!! The best ever. Thanks again Mike and Beth. Dear Mike and Beth:

You were great hosts and as it turned out, it was the best party fellow pilot Dave and I had attended in a long time. It was great to meet you and other Seawinders and just relax. We had a great smooth flight back to Hanscom AFB. You and other Seawinders are invited to come visit me and my airplane anytime. We live 9 miles NW of Boston and HAFB is open to general aviation. Pilots can tie down on the East ramp and call me at 781-861-0348 to greet them. Warm regards, Steve Wightman.
