    seawally | Denied Access

I have a Rant that has to be released. After trying to vote on the Splash-In poll,I was denied because "a security token was invalid", and told to "inform the administrator". I was then denied access to the administrator because, you guessed it, "a security token was invalid"!

Does this happen to anyone else? Is it because I don't always log out? I am happily greeted every time I go to the site.

I'm not looking for smiley faces, I'm looking for information and convenience. Does everyone enjoy having to scroll up 1/3 to 1/2 of EVERY page they want to view? After John categorized all the posts, I sure like the old ISPA site better than the Forum! That feels better -- Wally Weller

    Hi Wally,

There have been 9 votes and 48 people that have viewed the poll to date. We currently have over 50 + users that are signing in without any problems. This is what I would expect to see in relation to the 8-10 logins/day.

I check the forum at least once a day for problems. The invalid "security token" is an issue with your new mac set-up. Please check you security settings as they may need to be lowered. Unfortunately, all computer set-ups are different.

I did notice that you had two user names with the same email address; Wally and seawally. I deleted "Wally", so log in under seawally; although this should not have had any relevance to the problem you are seeing. I signed in under your username and password and DID NOT have any problems with the site or the poll. All functions worked well for me by simply logging in. After you are done, you should log out although the software is configured to log you out after 30 min. of inactivity.

"Does everyone enjoy having to scroll up 1/3 to 1/2 of EVERY page they want to view?".... If you are referring to the seawind picture, then yes, even I have to scroll down a little to get to all the categories. Even if the picture wasn’t there you would still have to scroll down to get to the last categories.

The old board was just that "Old". What you didn't see is the time it took to move the posts to categorize them. The old board was labor intensive.

Getting use to the forum is really an easy process. There are many shortcuts you can use to get to the meat of the posts. When you sign on if you click on "NEW POSTS" you will be able to go directly to the new posts.

I am sorry you are having problems and I am more than happy to walk anyone thru the problems to the best of my ability. The forum layout and operation; no problem..........Configuring your computers...not that good.

I want to make this as easy as possible for all and you suggestions are always welcome. Let’s look forward.....

    Mike,

I don't have a Mac, and I just lowered my security level for cookies. I'll let you know if that solved my problem. Wally

What I need is a new attitude or kids - I guess attitude would be easier. When ever my 7 year old god son is around I have him help me out !

    Tom,

I know what you are saying. When this forum was opened I knew there would be some opposition. Anything new has opposition, however, over the long run this is/will be much better. Once you get the hang of it and see what can be done......you will like it..!

I haven't really started to set this forum up yet. The main page will start to change in a few more months. I want the dust to settle first.

PS - Kids don't come with handbooks, go with the attitude..!

bcarlson | Default Old and New...

Greetings Wally, Tom, Mike, and other Seawind friends. First of all, having been a former ISPA site editor I would like to thank Mike, John and others who keep this site going. I applaud the extensive amount of effort that setting up this new forum has required.

Having said that, and seeing the aspects of setting up a new forum, I agree with the comments in this thread and thank Wally for bringing it up. I think it is something that needs discussion.

While I agree that the old forum is well… “old,” I think it had some very good features. Perhaps its management would have been easier if rather than trying to break it down into so many categories we could have broken it down into just a current page and an archive page. As it stood, it was easier for users to simply scroll through the posts and determine the content by looking at all of the titles on just one page without so many keystrokes or mouse clicks for navigation.

The new forum is cumbersome and is requiring a lot of adjustment by all of us. It seems a little strange to me, but I find myself looking in on the old forum from time to time and hoping someone has posted there. I also refer to the old forum often to find information that has accumulated there over the years. There is still a huge wealth of builder information there that can be found nowhere else; so I think it is imperative that we do whatever is necessary to keep it online as long as there are people still building the kit version of the Seawind.

I also believe that there are some reasons why we really have no choice but to update and move to this new forum. The main reason is that the database for the old one was getting quite large and susceptible to file corruption. Even before turning the site over to John we had had some problems with the very early posts and lost some of them.

I am hoping that as people get used to this new forum and the dust settles (as Mike mentioned) we can perhaps make some improvements that will make this forum a little better. One thing that might help is to add the capability to expand all posts, or make it possible to view all posts in a way similar to the old forum. I’m sure that Mike has some other ideas for improvement.

It has taken some time, but I have seen some improvement in the use of the new forum and I think most of us are adjusting. Even so, I know most of us are having growing pains. All I can hope is that we can all “hang-in” and help with the improvement by making suggestions and keeping the lines of communication open. BC

    Hi Brent,

It's good to see more and more people using the forum.

With "New" there is always a learning curve. This forum represents the latest in this type of communication and is of course more cumbersome for some. I have been keeping in touch with those that have needed some help crossing over and will remain available to all.

During the conversion, I had many conversations with the current web host regarding the old board. It turns out that the old board was created by in house software people(s) and is no longer supported by the creators of the software. Eventually the board would have had to be converted to a new forum.

The old board let people jump posts making it very difficult to follow a conversation. The old board did not have an active search feature. The old board did not allow editing of posts (spelling or content)...............

When all is said and done; all the posts on the old board will be transferred to this new forum. Then searching will be a dream. The new forum uses the SQL database which is a much more stable configuration.

The old board has been backed up to my computer.

ALL suggestions are welcome!! One of the best features of this forum software is the fact that it is supported by thousands of people. If someone comes up with an idea.....like a rotating banner with pictures of the members seawinds or a way to advertise to defray costs.....then I can go to a site that has thousands of plugins to find the best software for that purpose. Plugins allow me to add software to the forum that will accomplish the task at no extra charge.

Over time and some perseverance, this forum will shine.

PS - Don't forget to click on "NEW POSTS" when you sign on. This will give you all the new posts since you last signed on......

    Don't forget to check for multiple pages in a thread...........page 1 of 3, page 2 of 3, page 3 of 3

    Mike,

I used the computer of a very savvy neighbor, and it seemed to work fine! He told me to click TOOLS, INTERNET OPTIONS, Browser history-delete, Temporary Internet Files - Delete files, and now I seem to have access to everything!!! I will advise if not, and hopefully this will help anyone who is having a similar problem. Thanks for your efforts. Wally W.

Great to hear all is fine.......

Wally seem to have log in problems, once he logged in, the next page would log him out. Something was conflicting with the auto log on (remember me).
